Recycling old Shelterguards,
Treeguards and Spirals

We are pleased to announce that we have now finalised an agreement with Agri.cycle, a company specialising in the recycling of agricultural waste, that will now make it possible for all old Shelterguards, Treeguards and Spirals to be recycled. As a company with a genuine concern for the environment, this is a service which we are very pleased to be able to promote, and we are hoping that it will become widely used over the coming years.

Introduction to Agri.cycle

Agri.cycle is a farmer owned business, based in Lincolnshire, which was set up in 2005 to provide a cost effective, simple and sustainable way for farmers to comply with the EEC waste directive. The company operates through a constantly expanding range of local collection hubs across the UK and are fully approved by the Environment Agency.

Basic guide to how the system works

Agri.cycle and Acorn Planting Products have worked in partnership to develop a scheme that is specifically designed for the recycling of tree shelters. Each of Agri.cycle’s collection hubs, across the country, will be able to supply and deliver purpose made 1.2m3 bags which can be filled for a flat rate of £21 per bag. These can then be taken back to the local hub, or a collection can be arranged for an additional, small fee.

A more detailed step-by-step guide to how the scheme works can be found on the following page: step-by-step guide to recycling your shelters

Which guards will Agri.cycle accept?

You can now recycle the following materials:
  • Spiral shelters and guards
  • Shelterguard Plus
  • Treeguard Plus
  • Polythene Packaging
  • Pallets

Agri.cycle will also be happy to offer a price for any other items you may wish to recycle, subject to suitability.

Cost

£21 per 1.2m3 bag delivered to an Agri.cycle depot.

If you wish to have the bags collected, this can be arranged for a small fee.

This fee is kept as low as possible, but is necessary due to the high costs of reprocessing old, contaminated plastics.

Location of local collection hubs

Agri.cycle have a large number of hubs across the country, which they are adding to all the time. To find the nearest hub to you click here.

What will the material be used for?

95% of waste collected is reprocessed at Agri.cycle’s main site in Lincolnshire. This is then used to make products such as: fence posts, garden furniture, garden composters, land drains….and potentially new tree shelters!
